Vanilla Spice is not just your run-of-the-mill 90s tribute band (if you can believe that 90s tribute bands have become the norm). This eight piece group offers dynamic performances of everyone’s favorite jams from the days of Tupac, Notorious B.I.G. and of course Vanilla Ice.
The group formed in 2013 and made their official debut this past January. Vanilla Spice is comprised of DJ Prince Paul (Paul Nazzaro), vocalists Queen V (Venessa Mendez) and Lil Spice (Lily Zobel), guitarist Richniss (Rich Kniss), drummer Rev Kev (Kev Philips), rapper Andy Savage (Andrew Patti), and keyboardists DMC (Danielle Cooke) and Snoop Dougg (Doug Borman). Their combined talents and musical mastery, in tandem with fitting visuals, create a truly unique experience. The energetic and engaging performances demonstrate a wonderfully inspired new spin on classic 90s songs.
We had a chance to sit down with DJ Prince Paul for a quick interview all about the 90s:
SLE: What was your favorite 90s movie?
Paul: I think Ninja Turtles was my favorite as a kid. The Secret of the Ooze was great.
SLE: How about your favorite TV show?
Paul: Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, definitely. I loved Will and Carlton, the music, really just the whole concept.
SLE: If you weren’t performing in a group, what would you be doing?
Paul: I would be DJing a lot more, shooting and editing video, and playing basketball.
SLE: Wonder Years or Boy Meets World?
Paul: I don’t really know Wonder Years, so it would have to be Boy Meets World by default.
SLE: Full House or Family Matters?
Paul: Is that a trick question? Definitely Full House.
SLE: Did you ever have a pager?
Paul: No, that was more of an adult thing. I was too young to have a pager. But the clear ones were super cool.
SLE: What was your favorite music video?
Paul: “Mo Money Mo Problems” was great. The dancing and fireworks made it a huge spectacle.
SLE: Mortal Kombat or Street Figher?
Paul: Mortal Kombat is the best 90s game there is.
Vanilla Spice will perform at the Phoenix Fashion Week Emerging Designer and Model Launch Party this Thursday, June 11 at Livewire. Tickets are available now at livewireaz.com.
