New Music Alert
Viceroy’s latest single, 1999, featuring EMAN8 (formerly known as Brandyn Burnette), serves as an evocative blast from the past. A blend of soulful jazz and southern roots, the production pairs well with the nostalgic lyricism and smooth vocals delivered by EMAN8. Pop-style keys drive the tune’s uplifting, energetic quality, while Ryan Svendsen’s trumpet ad-libs in the background add yet another dimensional layer that bring the song together. The song is almost reminiscent of a modern-day speakeasy.
Straying from his electronic-heavy tropical house origins in his new track, the San Francisco-based DJ began his career producing synth-heavy house beats and remixes. Following the release of his two most recent songs, Caught Me a Rhythm (ft. Marc E. Bassy), and 1999 (ft. Brandyn Burnette & EMAN8), both of which are variably different from his former work, it is clear that Viceroy is wandering into uncharted territories to create an original genre of his own.
Viceroy’s last two song releases speak to his abundant energy, somehow making us feel like it’s always summertime.
